Hapkikwan was founded in 1994. by Grandmaster Prof. Boris Krivokapic LL.D. who at that time had over 20 years of experience in Martial Arts (Hapkido, Taekwondo, Karate, Judo, Jujitsu).

The Art has been developing ever since, in order to become even more efficient and realistic. It’s been created for modern people – law enforcement and military professionals, but also for ordinary citizens regardless of their age and gender.

The name “Hapkikwan” comes from Korean language, meaning “The School of Harmonized Energy” and was chosen to explain that the Art was based upon Korean Hapkido.

More specific, it's basis was mainly Moo Lim Won Hapkido which Boris Krivokapic practiced in 1994. in Seoul (Korea) as personal student of Grandmaster Choi Sang Heum, Moo Lim Won Hapkido Founder and President. The other main source is Hoshinkido Hapkido in which Boris Krivokapic is representative for Serbia and Balkan states of Grandmaster Serge Baubil, 10th Dan, Hoshinkido Hapkido Founder and President of the International Hoshinkido Hapkido Federation. Both schools (Moo Lim Won & Hoshinkido Hapkido) are based upon one of the hardest Hapkido schools - Bum Moo Hapkido, developed in 1968. by Grandmaster Kim Yun Sik (10th Dan).

Yet, although based on the mentioned schools, Hapkikwan has been significantly influenced by some other Hapkido styles and also various other Martial Arts, in particular such as Taekwondo, Judo, Jujitsu, Uechi Ryu Karate, Sambo, Russian Sistema, Western Boxing, Serbian traditions etc. Moreover, there are numerous techniques, drills and tactics invented by Prof. Krivokapic himself.

In comparison to traditional Hapkido, Hapkikwan differs in the fact that has a lot of specific movements, hand stikes, combinations, weapons etc. For example, unlike traditional Hapkido, not only that Hapkikwan has sparring, but it has 6 different types of sparring which purpose is not sport competition, but developing character and skills of students. Also there is no use of some traditional weapons which are rather exotic for contemporary person living in modern city (such as spear, fan), there is fancing (with sword and sabre) but of rather limited importance etc. On the other hand special attention is placed to fire armes, knive, short stick, use of ordinary objects for self-defense etc. Even more, there are several weapons, which come from the tradition of Slavic peoples.
